Mary Jane Bacon Scott Hamm part 6 -- death and burial

  • 1900 census
  • 1908 death of son Marshall
  • 1910 death of husband Amos
  • 1913 Mary Jane Bacon Scott Hamm death and burial

This is the 6th and last installment for Mary Jane Bacon Scott Hamm.  It is hard to get reliable information on women much beyond this point, but what I have is here for your edification.

 1900

Census
Salisbury Town, Merrimack NH

1900 Census for Mary Jane Bacon Scott Hamm
Salisbury NH

1908

Death of son Marshal Winfield Scott, 6 July 1908, Franklin, Merrimack County, New Hampshire

1910

Two years later, her husband Amos Hamm died in 1910 in Salisbury, New Hampshire.  He was age 76.  They had been married for 44 years.  That's a long time.

1913

Three years later, Mary Jane Bacon Scott Ham died 5 January 1913, Salisbury NH.  She is buried somewhere in NH.  She was 80 years old.  Where did she live during these three years?  Did she live with daughter Della?  Did she die because she was a widow?

Mary Jane Bacon Scott Hamm part 5 -- 1880s, not much information

This is all there is for this decade.  Most likely she worked raising her family, worked the farm.  Trying to make things better.

 1880

Census
1880 Census for Mary Jane Bacon Scott Hamm
Salisbury NH

Here, she is 43 years old (either she is fudging on her age by about 5 years, or her neighbors are guestimating).  She still lives with husband Amos age 45.  Daughter Mertie M. Ham is 7 years old.  Mary's occupation is listed as Keeping House, but she would most likely have helped her husband out on the farm
Her other children are not on this census, we'll have to keep an eye out.
